We’re still over a month away from the crowning of the champions at the 2023 U.S. Open, but it’s not too soon to start making some sports betting observations about the tournament. At Wimbledon, we saw two new singles champions, as Carlos Alcaraz fought off Novak Djokovic to take his first Grand Slam title, and Marketa Vondrousova became the first unseeded women’s champion in the storied history of the tournament. Let’s look at some US Open odds from the men’s and women’s fields as well as some thoughts about a few of the contenders.

Bet on the U.S. Open!
It’s difficult to make solid predictions on the women’s side because it has been such an open field. It looked like Iga Swiatek was going to take over the women’s game for a while, but the three Grand Slams this year have three different winners: Aryna Sabalenka (Australian), Swiatek (French), and Vondrousova (Wimbledon). Each of these players has a different style of play, but since the U.S. Open is a hardcourt event, look for a big server to come out on top of the women’s side.
Over the last year, the top five players in percentage of hardcourt points won are Swiatek (55%), Vondrousova (54%), Jessica Pegula (53%), Lidumila Samsonova (53%) and Sabalenka (53%). The winners of the last four Grand Slams are all on that list. Swiatek is the defending champ, but Sabalenka pushed Swiatek to three sets in the 2022 semifinals, even though her serve as not at 100%, and she won a hardcourt Grand Slam in Melbourne. Sabalenka also won at Indian Wells, and she has motivation from her sense that the semifinal loss at Wimbledon should have gone her way.
On the men’s side, it looks like Djokovic has a new rival in Alcaraz. Djokovic is in the rare position of looking to bounce back from a loss after Wimbledon. Both Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev have beaten Djokovic in a best-of-five match, but Alcaraz’s Wimbledon title was just his fourth grass tournament ever. He not only learned the nuances of that surface on the fly, but he also managed to pull that fifth-set win over Djokovic out against a player who usually is the master of coming back to take that last frame himself. Medvedev is an interesting pick, though. He has won four hardcourt titles this year (Miami, Rotterdam, Qatar, and Dubai). He made it to the finals at Indian Wells, where he lost to Alcaraz. He lost in the fourth round in 2022 as the defending champion, and this time he would likely have to go through Djokovic or Alcaraz, if not both, but he has the calculating style to pull it off.
