The Bedlam rivalry between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had a predictably crazy ending, as a rivalry that had 118 meetings in it came with plenty of drama. The Cowboys benefited from a ridiculous non-call on a Dillon Gabriel pass into the end zone, but Gabriel had chances to bring the Sooners back late and ultimately failed. After the game, the horde of Oklahoma State fans snapped off the goal post and threw it into nearby Theta Pond, only for an enterprising agribusiness major to find it in the pond, drag it out, and cut it up for souvenirs, which means that this part of college football history has an even more unique ending. Oklahoma remains on the list of potential national championship winners, but expect odds to show up for Oklahoma State soon, especially if they make it to the Big 12 Championship. Let’s look at some of the top teams’ current college football betting odds to win it all and talk about which picks are smarter than others in the 2023/24 CFP National Championship.

Georgia won their 26th straight game last week, stopping Missouri, 30-21. We’ll know over the next three weeks if the Bulldogs can hang on and win tough games without Brock Bowers, as they host Ole Miss and then play Tennessee and Georgia Tech on the road. Junior linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson went down on the last play of the third quarter with a fractured left forearm. He’s the team’s defensive signal-caller, so the team will have to regroup in his absence.
Alabama got four rushing touchdowns out of quarterback Jalen Milroe, the first Tide signal-caller to hit that number. Will Reichard became the first kicker in FBS history ever to get over 500 career points. It’s hard to count the Tide out, especially since they have just one loss, a chip on their shoulder, and a clear path to the SEC Championship. Next week they play at Kentucky, but the Tide seem on a real roll right now, no pun intended.
Florida State controlled their game over Pitt, 24-7, and they have a berth in the ACC Championship for the first time in nine years. Both Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman were out, and missing their top two wide receivers caused the Seminoles’ offense to sputter for a while. Ultimately, Jordan Travis went 22 of 36 for 360 yards and a passing and rushing touchdown, and Ja’Khi Douglas caught six balls for 115 yards. The Seminoles have a 15-game winning streak going into their showdown against Miami this week.
Smart Picks
Ohio State was down 9-7 at the half against Rutgers this week, but then they turned on the gas after the intermission, rolling to a 35-16 win. Tailback TreVeyon Henderson ran for 128 yards and a score, and Kyle McCord found Marvin Harrison Jr for two touchdown passes. This is a tough 9-0 team that has a major edge over Michigan, if only because the Buckeyes aren’t going through the nightmare of public scandal – and the Wolverines won’t have the advantage of knowing their opponents’ signals now.
Washington got 572 yards of offense against USC in their 52-42 win, with 256 coming from tailback Dillon Johnson, as he ran for four scores. The Huskies’ defense almost gave up too many points to get the win, but it helped that USC’s run defense is absolutely porous. It would be interesting to see what happened if Washington hit an elite defense.
Long Shots
Texas needed overtime to get by Kansas State, but the Longhorns showed balance, running for 260 yards and passing for 218 while holding the Wildcats to just 33 yards on the ground. This was a top-25 win for the Longhorns, but they also lost to an Oklahoma team that looks more beatable each week.
Michigan should be near the top of this list, but it’s just hard to trust a team that lost to TCU the last time they faced a tough team that evaded their signal-stealing schemes. The pressure of the investigation will wear on the program, and even if they can beat Ohio State and win the Big Ten, that national semifinal will prove to be another hurdle they can’t jump.
