London E-Prix: Formula E Betting Preview of the Final Races

ExCel London is set to host the 2023 Hankook London E-Prix as two races remain in Season 9. The circuit for this race is unique because it will take place both inside and outside the exhibition building and through the Royal Docks; running the cars inside is possible because of the zero-emissions vehicles that Formula E uses. This will create challenges with respect to air temperature and surface changes, as well as differences in lighting conditions. The two remaining races will take place on July 29 and 30. Both days, the races start at 11:30 am Eastern time, and U.S. audiences will be able to catch the broadcast on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN). There are four drivers who are still mathematically alive for the title: Jake Dennis (195 points), Nick Cassidy (171), Mitch Evans (151), and Pascal Wehrlein (146). Let’s break down this race as you consider your Formula E betting options.

Formula E: 2023 Hankook London E-Prix Preview

The track will run 2.086 kilometers with 20 turns. The drivers will go clockwise, which means 12 right turns and eight left turns. There are bumps in the track that will send the cars into the air; the chicanes outside the exhibition building provide ample opportunity for overtaking.

Jake Dennis will be racing in front of his home fans, as the UK native has the chance to wrap up the title after a second-place finish in Rome in his last race. Over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Formula E had four races in London – and Dennis has victories in two of them. With that 24-point lead that he holds in the standings, the title is in his control, but there’s also a reason why they run the races – he has to finish the job.

Mitch Evans sits 44 points out of first place, which means that some chaos would have to ensue in front of him for a title to fall into his hands. Evans has never won a Formula E race in London. Evans has a track record (no pun intended) of finishing near the top of the Formula E driver standings – but not coming away with the title. If you like Evans, you see him reversing these historical trends and coming away with the win.

Pascal Wehrlein has had a transcendent season in terms of his own career. He is wrapping up his fifth season in Formula E, and the three races he has won make up the best campaign that he has put together. The second half of the season is a bit more disappointing, as he has failed to crack the top five too many times. As with Evans, he would have to benefit from significant chaos in front of him, in both races, to get the driver’s championship. Wehrelein also has struggled in London, but a podium finish or two is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Nick Cassidy looked to be in good position for sneaking up on Dennis and taking the World Championship going into the Rome E-Prix, but a disastrous 14th-place result meant that he drew zero points out of the race. He had won three of the last six races going into Rome, but now he has to take the fight to Dennis and win. In 2022, he did finish on the podium in one of the two London events, but now he has to get some help in beating Dennis once, and maybe twice, to get the title.
