You won’t see many college football games as unusual as the meeting between then #9 Clemson and Duke on Monday night. Both teams opened ACC play in Week 1, which often goes poorly for the favorite, especially when the favorite is on the road. Duke emerged with a bizarre 28-7 victory in which Clemson took the ball into the red zone four different times without getting any points to show for it. Clemson outgained Duke by 48 and had a dozen more first downs. They also ran for 200 yards – which meant that Clemson lost a game in which the offense had run for that many yards for the first time in 109 tries. The bottom line: Clemson had two chip-shot field goals blocked and fumbled the ball twice after getting to first-and-goal at the Duke 1. Can Clemson turn things around? That’s one question to think about going into Week 2 and NCAA Football Odds. Another question – how you should work this week’s point totals into your college football betting.

Ball State Cardinals at Georgia Bulldogs
NCAAF Lines: Ball State Cardinals (+42.5) at Georgia Bulldogs (O/U 53)
When: Saturday, September 9, 2023, 12:00 pm ET
Where: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
TV/Live Stream: SEC Network
In Week 1, Ball State went to Kentucky and took a 44-14 drubbing at the hands of the Wildcats. Things get even more pessimistic this week as the Cardinals take on the two-time defending national champions. Georgia also faced a MAC opponent last year when they hosted Kent State, but the Bulldogs let Kent State hang around in a 39-22 win. Expect that score to appear on the Georgia bulletin board to motivate the players this week. Georgia rolled UT-Martin last week, 48-7. Georgia could go over this point total all by themselves this week. Take the over.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at N.C. State Wolfpack
NCAAF Lines: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-7.5) at N.C. State Wolfpack (O/U 51)
When: Saturday, September 9, 2023, 12:00 pm ET
Where: Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
TV/Live Stream: ABC
The Wolfpack only beat Connecticut 24-14 on the road last week, but they may have been looking ahead to this week’s top-ten opponent. Sam Hartman has started three times against the Wolfpack; in the last two starts, he threw a total of six picks. This time he is part of the Fighting Irish and has a better offensive line, a tougher running game, and a stout defense. Notre Dame beat Tennessee State, 56-3, last week at home after rolling Navy, 42-3, in the opener. I think the Wolfpack defense can do a better job against Notre Dame, but I’m not sure that they can stay within double figures. Take the under.

Nebraska Cornhuskers at Colorado Buffaloes
NCAAF Lines: Nebraska Cornhuskers (+3.5) at Colorado Buffaloes (O/U 57.5)
When: Saturday, September 9, 2023, 12:00 pm ET
Where: Folsom Field, Boulder, CO
TV/Live Stream: FOX
Nebraska only managed 10 points in their Week 1 loss to a Minnesota team that is not a defensive powerhouse. The Cornhusker defense stood tall, only allowing 13 points, but the Golden Gophers don’t seem nearly as loaded as Colorado does on offense. Shedeur Sanders set a school record for the Buffs when he shredded the TCU defense for 510 yards on Saturday in a 45-42 win that shocked the nation. I’m not sure Nebraska has the speed to keep up with Colorado on Saturday, so this could turn into another track meet – at least for the Buffaloes. Take the over.

Utah Utes at Baylor Bears
NCAAF Lines: Utah Utes (-7) at Baylor Bears (O/U 47.5)
When: Saturday, September 9, 2023, 12:00 pm ET
Where: McLane Stadium, Waco, TX
TV/Live Stream: ESPN
Baylor just gave up 42 points at home to Texas State (along with 441 yards of offense). Utah might get starting quarterback Cam Rising back from an ACL tear for Week 2. Baylor won’t have quarterback Blake Shapen (MCL), and Utah’s defense is what has staked them to the last two Pac-12 championships. So I don’t see Baylor scoring much, but can they keep Utah from running up the score? Take the under.
